Bush calls Iran main sponsor of terrorism

President Bush has described Iran as the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, in what aides are calling the keynote speech of his tour of the Middle East. Speaking in Abu Dhabi, he accused Iran of sending hundreds of millions of dollars to extremists around the world while its own people faced repression and economic hardship.

President Bush also made a forceful call for strengthening democracy in the Middle East.

A BBC correspondent travelling with the President said countries in the region were worried about Iran's nuclear ambitions, but they were far more concerned about how the US reacted.
